Radiology / Medical Imaging Department
The department provides imaging services to all other departments within the hospital to meet the requirements of both in and out patient’s alike. It also provides services for people applying for immigration status and health certificates for work and athletics.
The department provides a wide range of services including:
• Digital radiology (X-ray)
• Panoramic dental radiography
• Multi sectional computed tomography (CT) scans with intravenous contrasting
• Full range of ultrasound examination including 4D imaging
• Invasive biopsies
Digital radiology is a method of radiology where digital X-ray sensors are used instead of traditional photographic film. The advantages of this method include reduced time through-put via bypassing chemical processing, and the ability to digitally transfer and enhance images. In addition, less radiation is used to produce an image of similar contrast to conventional radiography.
Panoramic dental radiography is a method where by a panoramic scan of the upper and lower jaw is performed to produce a 2-D view of the jaw. The method is a form of tomography which uses multiple images to form a composite panoramic image.
Multi sectional computed tomography (CT) scanners use computer processing to combine multiple 2-D X-ray images. These images are taken at different angles around a point of interest to form a virtual 3-D tomographic image. Intravenous contrasting agents are sometimes used to improve the contrast of certain structures in the body i.e. blood vessels.
Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging method that uses high frequency sound waves to produce an image or sonograph of internal structures within the body. Ultrasound images are captured in real-time and can show the structure and movement of the body's internal organs, as well as blood flow through the veins and arteries.
We also have a 4-D Ultrasound machine which is used to create a real-time 3-D video of a baby in the womb.
